Have you ever wondered how to use your Coach to help me find a job? What can this simple tool do for you? I always thought that a resume was the only document that employers could see about me. So I wrote more than one; I had a few interviews but got no offers.
I still look at my old CV. But I know I am better than the people who applied for the jobs. They obviously weren’t hired! So what should I do? What do I need to do to land that job? How can I land the perfect job?
I know a lot of people who have had the same experience – not many but some. And I surely didn’t have it easy! I know I’m not the only person who has found themselves in a similar situation, so I want to share with other’s how they landed their dream job. Here goes…
Decide whether you want to keep going back to college. I know a lot of students who go back because they think it is the answer to their prayers. However, it is not easy landing a job after graduating. It can take years to build up enough experience and qualifications. And then you end up paying huge fees for years to come.
Make a list of your accomplishments and skills. A lot of students search for jobs based on their previous grades, however, do remember that there are different requirements for different jobs. Sometimes employers require a candidate to have taken specific exams. Don’t forget to add your personal profile as well. This is very important because the employer will be able to understand your motivation for applying for a certain position.
Research yourself! Don’t just rely on your teacher’s or references. You have to do a little research yourself. Find out what kinds of degrees or certifications you have attained, and try to gather a few quotations from companies you admire – ask them how they choose their candidates and if they use any kind of a recruitment agency.
Get involved! If you want to increase your chances of getting hired for a certain job, volunteer at a company you admire. Attend job fairs and recruitment seminars. The more you learn about the job market, the better.
Do some self-marketing! When you search for a job, be sure to send your resume out as often as possible. Don’t wait until it is too late – don’t wait for that last-minute “sniper” effect. Show employers that you are serious about your career by sending them your resume even when you don’t think they might ever need you.
Follow up! Follow-up every few days to make sure that your resume is still catching their attention. Even if your resume got lost in the clutter, follow-up to let them know that you haven’t forgotten about it. Ask them if they have any special instructions for resumes they are holding in the near future. If they don’t find another employer who does!

If you do find a job with that employer, be sure to follow up on it. Stay in touch with them every few days to see how things are going. It never hurts to let them know how you’re doing.
